The fifth day of a visit to Italy

In the fifth day of a visit to Italy throughout Comenius project we were visiting schools in San Pietro in Cariano. We toured the agricultural technical school. The headmaster welcomed participants and told about this school. It is equipped with a chemical labs in which  students e.g. examine soil acidity from the San Pietro in Cariano. In high school, there are also physical computing and labs. They are very well equipped. In high school, there are also workshops where students learn various stages of wine-making. the youth attending to this school come from the surrounding towns and they are the children of the owners of vineyards. They learn about this profession to be able to take over the vineyard from the parents and continue their work.

We toured the Science University in San Pietro in Cariano. It is in the Lebrecht Villa. This is a beautifully preserved building from about the 16th century. The University cooperates with a secondary school (with technical college). At the University mainly learn students from the technical college but also from abroad. They learn mainly wine production technology, chemistry, biology and economics. It is a small school, which has about 50 students per year. The University educates as many students as there is the demand on the labour market. Approximately 80% of students are employed after graduation. There are three stages of training. In the first stage, students learn how to provide a suitable environment to vines seemed the best fruit. They examine the acidity and soil composition, soil moisture and air and trace minerals that are found in the soil. On the second stage, students learn the processing of grapes. They learn about the production technology of different wines. On the third stage they deal with economy. The students learn about the markets for wine sales and demand for various species throughout the world. The University collaborates with France in the matter of the environment. They develop the latest technologies for the production of wine- the best for the environment.

After that we had gone back to school, where we waited for our friends from Italy, until they finished lessons ( this day unfortunately Italian students have to participate in school activities). Then anyone who wanted to go to Verona once again could do it especially the weather was much better than this we had for the first time in Verona. I had to go alone because my host girl had to learn for the test next day. After returning to San Pietro my host girl’s mum took me to the house of one of the Italian students where  we were playing in Fife with two guys from France. Next we went for a pizza and there we met  with other friends. After 2 hours of sitting in a bar we went to the playground to spend the last moments together and then we returned to homes to pack and get ready to come back to Poland. The visit in Italy was rather short but wonderful.
